Direction
Direction has two basic aspects in the AT context. First, it literally means sending the mental order to allow the head to lead the body in an upward direction. This decompresses the spine and encourages the torso to lengthen and widen. Second, it implies being the Director, the one setting the intention and conducting the energy to carry it out. This clarity in one’s thinking brings about a new neuro-muscular response in place of the unconscious, unreasoned habits.
We use the thought modalities of Awareness, Inhibition and Direction together to convert our long held patterns of tension into freedom in thought and action.
